Detail

We use materials to the best of their potential. We don't "slap" things together. We focus on a high level of detail, and we execute it to precision. We don't compromise. PRIDE sums it up. We are proud of the things we build. And we want you to be proud of it too.

Process

Successful construction requires careful sequencing of the various trades such as foundations, framing, electrical, plumbing, finishing, etc. This floor was insulated before it was covered with plywood. The weather barrier was wrapped over the top of the wall before the roof was framed to hold it in place. Careful planning, orderly process, and collaboration with your design team of architect and engineers enables us to work most efficiently.

WHY

We build because we like the detail, the process, and the outcome. Nothing is more fascinating to us than seeing something that we imagined come into reality. We live to perfectly execute the things we imagine with you and your design team. We enjoy seeing our clients living more enriched lives in our homes.

Art Studio and Garage

Abygga builders worked with a retired couple to make their home into a place where they could actually enjoy their retirement. The 16’ high concrete wall/floor planes, steel planter boxes, and shou sugi ban compliment one another to create this custom garage and art studio that is tucked into the hillside. Careful attention was given to the details such as a wall built like a butcher block, electrical conduit bent around structural elements, and copper plumbing that became accent features. This project involved removing 2 existing walls and replaced them with 2 steel beams that are supported by just one singular weld to a steel plate that was cast into the concrete wall. This one weld holds up the steel beams, roof deck, and the upper floor of the existing house.

Older homes in Seattle typically have a lot of unclaimed space in their attics. Reclaiming this space is an easy way to get more living space. In this project, we reinforced the attic floor as needed to support a new bedroom, bathroom, living area, and kitchenette with plenty of built-ins custom fit into all those quirky roof angles which give attics plenty of character. To get extra head clearance, we added a couple dormers, insulation and an additional heating unit to make the attic warm, cozy, and energy efficient.

Abygga hosted a group of design students on the jobsite to expose them to the realities of construction to help them bridge the gap between the drawing board and real, live construction.

(We were careful to alert them they should not expect to see an Abygga jobsite at every project since ours tend to be much more organized and systematic than most.)

Work in Progress

Here’s a taste of the different types of work Abygga does. Our work ranges from remodeling homes and the complicated integration of framing that comes with it to robust concrete and steel framing. We also custom fabricate site built windows that integrates seamlessly with the architecture.
